Update from the Manager

Fortunately, GCWD has made it through this freezing weather with little disruption of service, thus far. Our crews have been out working everyday and a few nights in these brutal temps making sure we don’t have any disruptions and making repairs when needed. We also have been able continued to read meters this week, although it is a slow go. Our office is open but our parking lot is ice and snow covered. We hope everyone is staying safe and warm!

After last nights extremely cold temps, you may have awoke to no water in your home. If so, make sure to open a faucet to allow for expansion in your water lines. Hopefully doing so will prevent your water line from bursting before it thaws. It is unlikely, but possible that your water meter may be frozen, especially if the lid has been left off by someone. If you feel the water meter may be the issue, give us a call and we will look into it. Water meters are less likely to freeze because they are under the ground and are not exposed to the wind but if someone has had or leaves the lid off during these extremely low temps, it will freeze and likely burst. If you have frozen water lines in your home, be sure to know where your shut off is or where your water meter shut off is, so that you can shut your service off should you experience a break.
